BF 110G-4 Wr.Nr.110087, 4./NJG3, Kjevik, Norway 1945
HA1809
General Background
The Bf-110G-4 was a dedicated night fighter entering service in late 1942. The airframe was strengthened to accommodate a larger engine than previous models and this also allowed for heavier payloads. It also had extra protection and carried factory installed airborne interception radar. There were field kits available so each pilot could personalize his aircraft with various armaments to help him achieve a higher rate of success. By mid 1944 the Me-410 was replacing the Bf-110G and in February 1945 production ended.
The Aircraft
In March 1945 4./NJG3 was formed with the purpose of intercepting Allied aircraft over Scandinavia but it only functioned for a couple of months. On May 8, 1945 the final function of the unit was evacuating German officers from the area. Aircraft Wr.Nr.110087 B4+KA was crewed by pilot Fw. Kurt Keilig, radio operator Fw. Kurt Schroter and mechanic Uffz. Karl Stamminger. This aircraft wasn't used in the evacuation because at the end of the war it was found in Kjevik Norway.
