General Background
The F-4 Phantom II first entered US Military service in 1960. It was designed as a fleet defense fighter for the US Navy but by 1963 it was adopted as the US Air Force primary fighter-bomber.
Despite the size and weight of this Cold War icon the F-4 broke 15 world records and continued to hold five of them until 1975.
Produced from 1960 to 1981 there were 5,195 Phantom IIs manufactured. Eleven countries other than the USA had the Phantom II in their inventory.

The Aircraft
In 1977 the U.S. and Egypt reached an agreement to supply Egypt with 35-36 F-4E Phantom IIs as well as armament. On October 14, 1979 the first aircraft arrived and were ex-31st TFW from Homestead Florida and were assigned to squadrons of the 222nd Tactical Fighter Brigade. In 1982 F-16s began to arrive and the F-4Es changed from air defense to ground attack. This F-4E is 66-0364/7801 C/N 2750 delivered to Egypt in 1980 and stationed at Al Quwwat al Jawwiya il Misriya, Cairo-West AB.
