Total No. of Collections: My Hobbymaster aircraft collection is currently
7 jets, but I have my eye on at least 3 more in the very near future, with
one already pre-ordered. My full diecast jet collection currently stands at
27. Mostly 1:72, with 4 1:144 models.
In the next month, I intend to add the two missing HM Harrier decommissioning liveries to my Harrier collection. At the minute I am making do with an Airfix Sea Harrier FA2, but once the HM version is released, that will be immediately replaced and I will have a 1:72 diecast model of every single seat Harrier variant operated by the British military.
Favourite HM model: The photos tell the tale! It has to be the Harrier II family.
Reasons for Collecting : I'll admit to having a very collective personality. If it wasn't for annoying limitations like money and space to store them, I would definitely go a bit crazy in assembling a larger diecast aircraft collection than the fleets of most air forces.
I've always been fascinated in flying since a young age, and appreciate aircraft as beautiful machines. Both aesthetically and mechanically. I lack the skills and talent to make model kits to the standards that I consider passable, and that's one of the main reasons I prefer diecast models.
That and a metal model just feels so much more substantial, without worrying about bits just dropping or breaking off.
Oh, and being able to change my diecast models from a ground configuration to a flying setup in minutes. Can't do that when you've had to glue those bits in place!
Anyway, I collect these aircraft models simply because it makes me happy. From the process of un-boxing them, taking photos of them and being able to look at them from any angle.
