KVII M41 Russian Heavy Tank Kalinin Front, Jan 1942
General Background
The Kalinin Front was part of the Soviet Western Front and ran from Kalinin to Tula Russia. At first the Front was assigned 3 Russian armies, 22nd, 29th and 30th and was a major part in the defense of Moscow. The winter of 1941-42 was one of the worst on record taking a heavy toll on German troops and equipment. The very few KV-2s that were left from the initial German assault were pressed into service along with KV-1s and T-34s. Battles at this Front went on for over two years.
